Divorce, change, and taking care of yourself
“Taking care of yourself during a divorce can often feel like the last thing on your list. The trick is to make it the first”
It is important to recognise that change – however it appears – can create loss, endings, grief, uncertainty, but also hope, opportunity and new beginnings. Wherever you find yourself right now at the start of 2024, I urge you to resolve to move forward with good intentions for yourself. Try to create a space in which you can think clearly, give yourself time each day to reflect and consider what your intentions are.
With all the change happening around us the thing we can control is ourselves. With this in mind, resolve to mindfully consider yourself and the changes you want to make in 2024. Be responsive to your needs, treat yourself kindly.
The world can be challenging and change can be unpredictable. But remember that change is not always bad. Positive change is something worth striving for and working towards.
You can be in charge of the change in yourself one day at a time, mindfully and with the aim of caring for yourself this year. Look for hope. You may find that the emotional support that comes from counselling is useful when working through potentially difficult and challenging times. It can also help provide essential clarity to help you process and make decisions for your future.
Working towards building hope and harnessing your potential are great things to take up for 2024. Hawkins Family Law is here to help. My guide to How to Care for Yourself During Divorce is a good place to start – “Taking care of yourself during a divorce can often feel like the last thing on your list.
